I believe our society is at it’s most toxic. From pollutants in the air to carcinogens in our food to chemicals on our clothes I think the ridiculous questions we ask – such as “what causes cancer” – are far too easily answered. I buy organic clothing when I can and organic food pretty much all the time. I’ll let my daughter chew on a sand covered rock but won’t let her near a conventionally grown apple, because there is a difference between germs and toxins.
I use organic cloth diapers, natural cleaners in my house, and vinegar to get rid of ants. Most of the time I can remember to take our reusable grocery sacks to the store and I don’t leave home without my earthlust bottle. My daughter’s mouth doesn’t touch anything that has BPA in it and her teethers and pacifiers are made from natural rubber, natural wood, and organic cotton.
I believe that we have a moral obligation and social responsiblity to take care of the environment. I love the native american proverb: “We did not inherit this world from our fathers and grandfathers. We are borrowing it from our children and grandchildren.”
