I am a Christian. I believe that there is a God who created this world for us to enjoy. I believe that when we screwed it up, He died to redeem us from our failures. I believe that if you rest your hope for redemption from sin in His death and resurrection He will with joy welcome you to Heaven.
I believe that the vast majority of people in this country have huge misunderstandings about Christianity and Christian beliefs, misunderstandings which are further perpetrated by movies such as Religulous and Jesus Camp.
I believe that Jesus calls us to care for the poor, orphans, and widows from the first fruits of our income and not the surplus. I believe Jesus would hate the denominational bickering that has defined the modern American church. I believe the prosperity gospel as made popular by TV evangelists is the most devastating and destructive lie to be forced upon believers since the Crusades. I believe that true Christianity is about passionate love for Christ, for His church, for those who don’t know Him, for the poor, for the hungry, and for the destitute. I believe greed is a grave sin and that it goes deeper and is more subtle than any of us knows. I believe the cure for the modern church is repentance and, as Jesus said, to “sell all that you have and give it to the poor.”
